How to play

Geography, solved by triangulation

No map. No multiple choice. Just the angles between cities and the spatial sense in your head.

01

Read the angles

Surrounding cities point inward from their true bearing and distance to the mystery center.

02

Make a guess

Type any city. A wrong guess adds its own angle to the diagram — more clues to triangulate with.

03

Narrow it down

Each try sharpens the picture. You have seven attempts before the answer is revealed.

04

Name the city

Solve in fewer tries for a higher score. Speed and daily streak bonuses stack on top.

Game modes

Four ways to read the world

Switch the target from a single city to whole countries. Each mode tests a different layer of your geographic intuition.

City

Name the city sitting at the center of the angles. The signature mode.

Capital

The hidden center is always a capital — a tighter pool, a sharper challenge.

Country

Forget the city — name the country the angles converge on instead.

Country Cities

Every surrounding city belongs to one nation. Work out which country they share.

FAQ

Good questions

How does a puzzle work?
Each puzzle shows five known cities arranged around a central question mark. Every city sits at its true compass bearing and distance from the hidden answer — so the arrow from Vienna really does point the way Vienna lies. Combine those directions and you can pin down the city in the middle.
What happens when I guess wrong?
A wrong guess isn't wasted. The city you guessed is added to the diagram with its own angle and distance to the answer, giving you another reference point to triangulate from. You get up to seven tries before the answer is shown.
How is my score calculated?
You start each puzzle at full points and the value drops with every try, so solving early scores higher. A speed bonus rewards quick solves, and a daily streak bonus grows the longer your run of consecutive days continues.
Do I need an account or internet connection?
No account is required to play — your streak and stats are kept on your device. The daily puzzle syncs so everyone plays the same board, and Practice mode works for as long as you want to keep going.
Is City Angle free?
Yes. City Angle is free to download and play, supported by occasional ads. You can remove ads from within the app if you'd prefer a clean board.
Which devices are supported?
City Angle is available for iPhone on the App Store. Visit our Support page for the latest on device compatibility and updates.
